Collection of personal information
The Network collects information from you which includes:
- personal information that you provide us through voluntary registration
- personal information collected by us, which includes when you logged in, what browser you are using, and your IP address
- aggregated data, which tracks traffic to the website but does not relate to you personally
Use of your information
The Network does not sell or rent your personal identification to third parties. We collect personal information so we can:
- enable your membership in the Network
- send you our weekly e-mail newsletter ("Bulletin")
- allow you to submit content for publication on this site
- allow you to participate in our discussion forums
- allow the Human Rights Network Trust to contact you
- associate website and Bulletin content with its creator
- enhance the experience of using the discussion forums
- determine website use and Bulletin subscription
Public disclosure of personal information
By default, most personal information is not available to
other network members or the general public, but some
is. Information that by default will be available to the
public is:
- user name
- if you provide one, your portrait
- any other personal information you place on your personal home page or pages in your personal folder
Fellow Network members may see your e-mail address only if you have selected Listed in searches in your personal preferences.
To ensure no personal information is available to the public, you must:
- choose a user name that does not reveal who you are
- ensure Listed in searches in your personal preferences is not selected, and
- not join any workgroups and ensure Available for membership in workgroups in your personal preferences is not selected, and
- not post in any of the discussion forums, and
- make any content in your personal folder private, and
- not submit any content for publication using the facility
provided on this website (if however you wish to submit
anonymously, you may contact
us).
Discussion forums and personal information
If you post in the discussion forums, the following
personal information will be visible to the public:
- user name
- last login time
- total posts
- a link to your last post
Likewise, the following personal information will be
visible to the public, but only if you provide it:
- location
- website
- occupation
- human rights interests
- instant messaging contact details
You also have the option of making the following information visible to the public by adjusting your forum preferences:
- full name
- e-mail address
- time zone
Workgroups and personal information
Workgroups allow Network members to cooperate on Network projects. If you make yourself available for membership of workgroups, other Network members will be able to view the following personal information, even if you do not belong to a workgroup:
- user name
- full name
- e-mail address
If you join a workgroup, the public will be able to see which workgroups you belong to.
Other disclosure
We release personal information not listed in the previous section to others only when we believe release is appropriate to comply with law; or protect the rights, property, or safety of the Network, our users, or others.
Updating your personal information and adjusting your
preferences
If you have registered as a member of the Network, you may
access your personal information at any time by logging in
with your user name and password on this website. You may also
temporarily unsubscribe from receiving the Bulletin. This
website provides you with ways in which you can alter your personal data,
including changing your email address, password, contact
information, and so forth. You can also adjust your
preferences relating to the public disclosure of personal
information.
