Members of the Network can add content like news and events and submit it for publication on this site. This tutorial demonstrates how to add a variety of different content types. It also demonstrates the use your folder, and how to use a simple word processing-like interface called Epoz to add and edit content.

Links are generally used to link to websites or pages on websites that are not part of the Human Rights Network site.

Adding a link is simple. Go to a folder where you have permission to add content. You can do this in your member folder. To see your member folder, make sure you are logged in, and click on the my folder link in the personal bar in the upper right hand corner of the site:

Once you have clicked on my folder you will be taken to the part of the website where your folder is stored, displaying your folder and its contents:

To learn more about your folder read this. To add an link, click on link from the add new item menu:

The item has been created, although it it doesn't yet have an link in it yet. You need to click on the browse button to specify a link to upload:

specifying a link

You need to enter a Title for the link, and and optional Description. Both of these will be displayed in search results, as well as with the link when it is viewed by itself. They will also appear in the weekly newsletter the HRN Bulletin

Depending on your preferences, you may also have the option of entering a short name. As the instructions on the form say, a short name should not contain spaces, upper case, underscores or other special characters. However it can contain a hyphen, as seen in the example. If you do not enter a short name, the site will generate one for you—however it will look like something a computer and not a human has generated!

Click on Save to save the changes you have just made.

Tips

  • Be sure to include http:// at the beginning of the link.
  • If you create an link and decide you no longer want it, you must manually delete it, even if you have just created it and it has nothing in it.
  • Don't forget to add keywords to the link properties!
  • To have the link appear in the most relevant section of the website, as well as the in the HRN Bulletin, you need to submit it for publication. When you do this you may leave a note suggesting where on the site it should be placed. You can do this by clicking on advanced under the state menu.
