Layli Miller-Muro, Multi-Awarded Human Rights Lawyer Visits NZ
CID Lunchtime Forum - Indonesian Human Rights Delegation
Dr. Abbas and Dr. Santika will be visiting us from Indonesia.
* Dr Abbas is the Director-General of the Agency for Human
Rights Research and Development (AHRRD) in the Ministry of Justice and
Human Rights of Indonesia.
* Dr Santika is the Director of the Centre for Research and
Development of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
The objectives of their visit are:
To explore the possibility of the AHRRD establishing an informal
network (research collaboration, information exchange, training
assistance) with NZ counterparts;
To obtain an insight into how NZ has dealt with "big issue" human
rights questions (e.g. in relation to indigenous issues);
To share information about the domestic harmonisation process
associated with the ICCPR and ICESCR. Discuss how NZ legislation
reflects its obligations under the above mentioned international statutes;
To inform NZ counterparts about the general human rights
situation in Indonesia.
