World Refugee Day 2007
This is an internationally recognised day inaugurated by the UNHCR, as a means of celebrating the courage and achievements of refugees worldwide, as well as raising their profile within their new lands of resettlement. This lecture will provide an insight into why NZ even takes the UNHCR quota refugees, how they add to the cultural diversity and riches of Auckland, what the challenges are of resettlement in another country, and what it's like from the perspective of the refugees themselves. Speakers include Hon Chris Carter, representing Office of Ethnic Affairs; Jenni Broom, National Manager, Client Operations, RMS Refugee Resettlement; and a representative from one of NZ's refugee communities.
