UNICEF NZ - Tap Project
What if every glass of water you drank quenched someone else’s thirst? In New Zealand we take clean water for granted, but many others aren’t so lucky. Did you know that:__5,000 children die of water-related diseases every day!! ___ Most girls and women in developing countries must walk up to three hours per day to fetch water!! ___ Lack of clean water is the second largest killer of children under five!! ___ Between 1990 and 2004, UNICEF helped 1.2 billion people worldwide gain access to improved drinking water - yet despite this progress, more than 1 billion people still do not have safe water. >>> Clean drinking water means more than protection against disease. It can mean a 50% increase in productivity for a village and, freed from the daily task of collecting water from distant sources, more children are able to attend school. >>>> UNICEF launched the award-winning “Tap Project” in New York last year. New Zealand joins as the only other country in the world to participate in 2008, with restaurants, schools and workplaces across NZ inviting Kiwis to donate a dollar or more for the tap water they would normally enjoy for free during Tap Week, from Saturday 5 – Friday 11 April. !!!! Just $1 can provide a child with safe drinking water for 30 days, or 30 children with safe water for one day !!!! All funds raised will go to support UNICEF water & sanitation programmes around the world. How You Can Get Involved:_________________ Visit a participating restaurant during Tap Week, Saturday 5 - Friday 11 April, and donate $1 or more for the tap water you normally receive for free. See http://www.tapproject.org.nz for participating restaurants ___ OR ___ Donate online ___ OR ___ Text TAP to 883 to make an automatic $3 donation ___ AND ___ Tell all your colleagues, friends and family about Tap Project!!
